The Curzon CE Primary School

Welcome toThe Curzon CE Primary School

We learn together within a caring, safe and friendly Christian school community where every child matters. RE is delivered in accordance with the Derbyshire L A agreed syllabus. Curzon is a C of E Voluntary Aided Church School and this means that the school has a strong Christian ethos and focus. This is reflected both in the teaching of RE and during Collective Worship. The school enjoys close links with the local church; the vicar delivering weekly collective worship within school and the children visiting church for a weekly service of child-friendly worship and Bible stories. The study of other major World Faiths is also undertaken, to ensure that all pupils are aware of, and show respect for, the beliefs, values and practices of others.

Social, emotional and behavioural skills underlie almost every aspect of school life and are, therefore, a crucial part of learning. We want children to be motivated and equipped to be successful and effective learners. Where children have good skills in these areas and are educated within an environment supportive to emotional health and well - being, children will acquire skills to help them in:

  • making and sustaining friendships
  • dealing with and resolving conflicts effectively and fairly
  • solving problems with others or by themselves
  • managing strong feelings such as frustration, anger and anxiety
  • recovering from setbacks and being able to persist in the face of difficulties
  • working and playing co-operatively
  • competing fairly and winning and losing with dignity and respect for competitors
  • recognising and standing up for their rights and the rights of others
  • understanding and valuing the differences and commonalities between people, respecting the right of others to have beliefs and values different from their own

Most social, emotional and behavioural skills are developmental and change over time so we continually revisit and develop the concepts, building on what has been previously learned. We use SEAL ( Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning ) to aid our work in PSHE. Although the work is an integral part of the curriculum, the whole school also have specific lessons and assemblies to support SEAL.
As an addition to this, children also learn about Sex and Relationship Education ( SRE ) appropriate to their age and development.
